In a world where talent is everywhere but consistency is rare, unlocking your full potential isn’t about radical change – it’s about daily habits that compound over time.

You don’t need to be the loudest in the room or the most naturally gifted. What makes someone truly exceptional is often much simpler, and far more subtle.

Here I’m sharing seven powerful habits that high performers use to set themselves apart and how you can adopt them and level up too.

1. Make it a Habit to Show Up Early (and Mean It)

There’s a quiet confidence in being early. Whether it’s a meeting, an event, or just starting your day, arriving ahead of time isn’t just respectful, it signals commitment and presence. It gives you space to breathe, settle, and observe.

The early bird doesn’t just catch the worm, it catches clarity, opportunity, and a chance to lead by example. If the early bird happens to need an alarm to wake up – I recommend the Hatch Restore 3 Sunrise Alarm Clock – I bought for my son so he can have screen-free bedtimes and still listen to his white noise to sleep.

Try starting your day 30 minutes earlier than usual for one week. Use that time for something that sets the tone; journaling, planning, walking in silence and watch how your days will become clearer, more productive and satisfying.

2. Another Great Habit is to Prepare the Night Before

No offence, but let’s be real – you can’t always trust sleepy morning-you with big decisions.

Laying out clothes, reviewing your calendar, preparing notes, or even setting intentions the night before allows you to hit the ground running. In fact, this was one of my biggest “secrets” when I was competing in bodybuilding shows on a strict daily routine.

It’s a small change that makes a big difference; more focus, fewer forgotten tasks, and far less morning chaos (trust me, I’ve been there! I still remember those frantic mornings trying to get my two-year-old ready for nursery while juggling meal prep, the gym, work, and everything in-between). Let it be a little gift to your future self!

3. Make it a Habit to Remember People’s Names

This is not about having a great memory, it’s about making people feel seen.

The sweetest sound to anyone is their own name, and using it signals attentiveness and care. Remembering names (and using them) is one of the easiest and most powerful ways to build connection and trust with your clients, staff, friends and family.

When you meet someone, say their name aloud immediately: “Nice to meet you, Jen.” Repetition and association help it stick – this was a game-changer for me.

4. Say No to Opportunities That Don’t Bring Value

Not every invitation is an opportunity. Saying no, kindly but firmly, is one of the most underrated success habits out there.

It protects your time, your energy, and your integrity. Every “yes” to the wrong thing dilutes your ability to show up fully for the right ones.

When presented with your next opportunity, ask yourself: Will this move me closer to who I want to be, or distract me from it?

If you feel you need more help with this (as I did being a natural “giver”), the book Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No To Take Control of Your Life is a great starter!

5. Habitually Follow Up Quickly and Then Follow Up Again

If you want to stand out, become the person who doesn’t drop the ball. Following up shows professionalism, care, and clarity of purpose.

Doing it quickly makes you memorable. Doing it more than once makes you reliable. 99% of people will not do this!!!

And yes, polite persistence is powerful; it’s often the difference between being forgotten and being chosen.

6. The Golden Habit: Deliver Value at Every Interaction

It’s not about selling yourself. It’s about helping, informing, connecting, or uplifting, even in small ways. Whether it’s a quick message, a conversation, or a client meeting, always ask:

Did I leave them better than I found them?

When people know that your presence brings clarity, insight, or support, they remember you and of course, they return.

7. Make it a Habit Never to Make the Same Mistake Twice

Mistakes are inevitable. Repeating them? That’s optional. What separates the average from the exceptional is the ability to reflect, adjust, and grow.

Treat every slip-up as a lesson, and you’ll become sharper, wiser, and far more resilient over time.

It’s not about perfection, rather progress with intention.

Something To Think About when Creating New Habits…

You don’t have to completely overhaul your life to step into your potential.

You just need to commit to small, intentional habits that reinforce who you want to be. Start showing up early. Prepare with purpose. Treat others with attention. Protect your energy. Deliver value. Learn fast.

When done consistently, these simple actions become your edge… Over time, they’ll become your legacy.
